BMW F30 330e Instrument Cluster Retrofit to 6WB

We, at MIGMANN, are thrilled to share an information about retrofitting a 6WB cluster onto a 330e. We understand that many of you have expressed interest in this upgrade, and we're here to provide a comprehensive overview of the pros and cons based on our firsthand encounter.

To begin, let's delve into the positives. The 6WB cluster not only functions seamlessly but also captivates with its stunning visual display. Unlike what you might have seen online, the actual experience surpasses expectations. The display boasts impeccable resolution, smooth operation, and serves as a substantial upgrade from the 6WA cluster.

However, in our pursuit of enhanced aesthetics and functionality, we did encounter a few drawbacks. It's important to note that while the 6WB cluster excels in various aspects, certain eDrive functionalities had to be relinquished:

  1. Missing eDrive Gauges: The absence of eDrive gauges on the cluster, which typically indicate parameters like ePower, eBoost, and brake recharging, is noticeable. While this wasn't a deal-breaker for us, it's worth considering for those who heavily rely on these metrics.
  2. Limited ECO PRO Mode Functionality: We observed limitations in ECO PRO mode, particularly regarding the display of power and charge. The needle movement is restricted to non-electric driving scenarios, which might affect users accustomed to monitoring electric performance closely.

  3. Unavailable Battery Percentage and Electric Range Display: Unfortunately, the cluster does not provide access to battery percentage or electric range through the BC-menu. While not a critical issue, it does detract from the holistic user experience.

Furthermore, an unexpected challenge arose during installation—the absence of electric range display both on the cluster and iDrive screen. This anomaly stemmed from data transmission complexities between the battery, cluster, and iDrive headunit. Despite initial coding attempts, a resolution remains elusive, although we're actively exploring solutions.

Other noteworthy observations include the absence of average battery consumption registration in iDrive and a minor bug affecting the 'My BMW' app, which consistently displays a static range of 8KM due to data transmission issues.

Despite these challenges, the 6WB retrofit offers a plethora of benefits, including the seamless integration of PHEV-specific check-control messages such as reminders about the charging port and fuel tank status.

In essence, while the 6WB retrofit enhances the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the 330e, it's essential to weigh the aforementioned limitations against the overall upgrade. At MIGMANN, we remain committed to providing transparent insights to empower our customers in making informed decisions.
